How big is Europe’s construction technology ecosystem, where is it growing, and where does the money go? To answer these questions, Contech Connect analysed 1,400 ConTech startups across Europe, along with the funding rounds they closed in 2025.

Here are the key findings.

Sustainability and supply chain lead the way

Contech startups distribution by Category in Europe

The European ecosystem is spread across ten main categories:

Two signals stand out. First, decarbonisation is the main innovation driver: sustainability, energy and materials together represent close to 40% of European ConTech startups. Second, digital tools remain the backbone of the ecosystem, with marketplaces, BIM and jobsite software accounting for more than a third of all startups.

Robotics, prefabrication and safety are still smaller segments, and the ones with the most room to grow.

France, the UK and DACH: Europe’s three ConTech engines

Europe's Contech Hotspots

ConTech innovation is concentrated in Western Europe:

  • United Kingdom: 23.1% of startups
  • France: 22.8%
  • DACH (Germany, Austria, Switzerland): 16.8%
  • Nordics: 12.4%
  • Southern Europe: 10.9%
  • Eastern Europe: 10.8%
  • Benelux: 3.3%

Together, France, the UK and DACH host more than 60% of European ConTech startups. Mature construction industries, strong investment capacity and active corporate–startup collaboration make them the core engines of the ecosystem.

€473M raised across 105 rounds

In 2025, European ConTech startups raised a total of €473 million across 105 funding rounds.

Where the money went:

  • France: 27.8% of funds raised
  • DACH: 27.2%
  • United Kingdom: 20.0%
  • Southern Europe: 11.4%
  • Nordics: 8.7%
  • Benelux: 3.8%
  • Eastern Europe: 1.2%

Comparing these figures with the number of startups tells an interesting story. France and DACH raise more than their weight: DACH hosts 16.8% of startups but attracts 27.2% of funding. The UK, by contrast, has the largest number of startups but a smaller share of capital. Eastern Europe, with more than 10% of startups, captured barely 1% of investment, a sign of an ecosystem still waiting for its investors.

An early-stage market. Most rounds were seed rounds, in every region. Series A and B rounds remain rare, and growth rounds are the exception. The average ticket was around €4.5 million, which confirms that European ConTech is still building its first generation of scale-ups.

A seasonal rhythm. Funding peaked in May and in the last quarter (October and December), while the summer months were almost silent.

What it means for the industry

  • For startups: the sustainability and supply chain spaces are crowded. Differentiation, traction with large contractors and international expansion will make the difference.
  • For investors: robotics, prefabrication and safety remain under-served, and regions such as Eastern Europe offer early access to a growing pool of startups.
  • For contractors and industrials: Europe already has a deep bench of solutions. The challenge is no longer finding innovation, but adopting it at scale.

About this mapping

The European ConTech Mapping 2025 is based on publicly available data, startup and venture capital databases, press monitoring, company websites and manual verification carried out by Contech Connect throughout 2025. Figures are intended to give directional insight into the European ConTech ecosystem rather than an exhaustive census.
